Thank you for your interest in having York Region MedVents provide first aid at your event. Below is an explanation of what you can expect from us, and what we expect from you:
- We are a Scouts Canada group of youth ages 15-17 (Venturers) and 18-25 (Rovers), supported by adults of all ages. Our members participate in all sorts of adventures, with a focus on learning about medicine and emergency response. We apply these skills through volunteering our services at public and Scouting events.
- Our minimum training level is Standard First Aid with CPR-C and AED. Many of our members are higher trained, but we can not guarantee who will be available for an event. We receive support from York Region Paramedic Services, but they must be contacted separately to provide paramedic services for your event.
- We will generally staff a First Aid Post and provide walking patrols of the event area. We may use bikes if a larger area needs to be covered. Our members operate in teams of 2 or more, connected by two-way radio and cellphone. Additional First Aid Posts may be staffed depending on event size.
- Our members will be clearly identifiable with uniforms, and high visibility vests if necessary. We have signs for our First Aid Post(s) as well.
- We can provide all necessary medical equipment including first aid kits, AED, and all medical supplies. If your site/facility has these already available, we can integrate them into our planning.
- We DO NOT provide medications or other controlled medical acts, transport to hospital or other facilities, lifeguarding, or other rescue services.
- We document all patient care; however, we cannot provide copies of these completed documents as they are private medical information. We can provide summaries that do not include private information, if requested. If your facility/organization requires documentation or incident reports, we would be happy to discuss how to meet this requirement.
- We strive to provide high quality patient care and avoid burdening local emergency services with less severe emergencies. We will not hesitate to call 911 or request additional assistance should a situation require it.
- We provide our services at no cost. We always appreciate donations however, which will go towards equipment and consumables, training for our members, and maintain our equipment and trailer. We can put you in touch with our Group Commissioner for further information regarding donations.
Once we have received your request, we will inform you if we are able to cover your event. If we are able to do so, additional information may be required including:
- A copy of the event emergency plans
- A detailed map of the area in use
- Additional contact information
During the event, we ask for:
- A location to set up our First Aid Post that will provides privacy for any patients, while still being visible & accessible to participants. This may be an existing room or structure, a large tent, or a location for us to set up our tent(s) and/or trailer.
- Access to all areas of the event. If some sort of pass is required, we will require these
- Parking for our members, and our 14’ trailer
- Access to running water. If this is not possible, we can bring large containers but may need a location to refill them as needed.
- Access to toilet facilities, for both our members and patients
- Appropriate meals provided, depending on the hours of the event. If this is not possible, we will either order food or cook for ourselves and provide you with receipts for reimbursement (within your provided budget
- If your event or facility used two-way radios, we ask you provide us with one if possible, so we can have communication with organizers, and you have quick access to us.
Please provide the information below with as much detail as possible so we can best determine our ability to provide services at your event.
